13 patients and counting

By Ellen on February 14 2010, 12:00pm

Our group of patients from the USNS Comfort has been steadily increasing and we are happy to find out that it is possible for some to make a full recovery after bed rest and physical therapy.

The Navy Helicopters have become the prime attraction in town; even after the 7th trip, the community is just as curious. The pilots have also become more adept at locating the small landing field. Yesterday (Thursday), we received four patients, a 5 month-old baby with marasmus who is a real fighter, a girl, and two other adults. The Comfort lets the patients choose where they want to go and it just warms our hearts to see the smile on these patients' faces when we tell them they are at St. Boniface Hospital in Fond des Blancs.

We are expecting more patients in the days to come and we are trying our hardest to prepare the staff and the hospital for the task ahead.

You guys are doing nice job. Physical therapy and rehabilitation are the main source of medicine for the people of Haiti. Support will definitely pour down from all over the World.
