Despite the silence on the blog, St. Boniface has been bustling with activity. It's been four months since the earthquake, and while the initial urgency has subsided, the needs are still high. We have had many visitors come and the residence has never been busier. Visitors have included rehab physicians, nurses and physical therapists to work with our new patient population, surgical teams, and representatives from many other large and small NGOs that we are partnering with. We are one of the only centers in the country working with spinal cord injuries and the support and sharing of expertise we've received has been humbling.
We've had some small building projects going on too, with the addition of new latrines (provided by Food for the Poor) and a new wheelchair accessible bathing area. The community and St. Boniface has also received a shipping container of donated goods from Gethsemane Scholarship Institute, a group from Rockville, MD who has a local education project. A variety of goods were distributed to the communty, and medical supplies were provided for the hospital. One of the best parts of the gift was the 40-foot container that was left for our use - see the next post to understand why.
Our team on the ground has been working hard to find aid for our hospital and community. The process has been painfully slow, but we are seeing the fruit of our perseverance and labour. We appreciate very much the prayers, kind words, and financial support of our donors. We couldn't do this without you.
