I must apologize for the lack of posting! It's been busy here with limited internet at times, but that's not really an excuse. Sometimes I think maybe I have so much to write about that I can't write about anything at all.
It's been a busy January with a lot of visitors. I enjoy meeting so many new people, showing them what we do, how we help, and encouraging them to come to know and love Haiti too. I also enjoy meeting those people who already have a love for Haiti and are committed to helping SBHF help others. There are many people who support us and to them we are eternally grateful.
The hospital has been busy and we have had two sets of twins born here in the last week. Everything has revved up again after the holidays. I've started managing the affairs of our little elderly home, Lakay Granmoun, sponsored by Queen of Peace Parish in Gainesville, Florida. I'm working to make the most of the budget and to improve the quality of the menu there. It's a challenge that I certainly feel that I'm up to - I think I will learn a lot, too.
As many other organizations are experiencing in these economic times, we are facing financial challenges. Our vehicles are feeling the strain of almost constant use, which means sometimes plans need to be rearranged if one happens to break down. Many needed improvements and new projects have been put on hold. We are making do with the limited space we have, but we are quite literally bursting at the seams. Our priority, however, is ensuring that we continue to provide the best possible care to our patients and our community.
In spite of the financial challenges, everyone remains positive and hopeful. We know that the work we do, the relief we provide is in God's hands.
