"The Thomas and Nancy Conway Pavilion", named after its generous benefactors, is a much-needed addition to the St. Boniface Hospital in Haiti. The new space will go a long way to solving many of the problems we have been facing due to the significant growth in patients over the past few years. The Pavilion includes a new maternity ward, a medical surgical ward, a nurses station and a large new waiting area.
The continual problem of overcrowding at our hospital has been eliminated with this beautiful new addition to the hospital. The additional in-patient wards will allow us to now have rooms for isolation of patients with contagious diseases like TB and meningitis. Patients were being moved into the new area as soon as the paint was dry! It is enormously satisfying to be able to take patients from hallways and overcrowded rooms to a sparkling new unit and settle them in their beds. When they arrived, we had no place to put them and they could not be turned away. They needed care and were grateful for it, whatever the circumstances. Now we have a place for them to stay where they can receive the treatment they need in wonderful, new rooms.
The Pavilion also includes a large new waiting area where hundreds of patients gather daily, waiting to be seen. They have a roof over their head to protect them from the sun and rain. The new waiting area also distances them from the patient exam rooms, increasing patient privacy. The old waiting area will be used to expand the Medical Records/Admitting office adding room for more administrative space. These changes were desperately needed.
This gift was given by the Conway's in thanksgiving to God for the healing of their granddaughter. Somehow our good God takes our gifts and multiplies them (a little like the loaves and fishes). Much good will come from this gift, more than any of us know.
