One of the many fun activities enjoyed by participants.
The music rocked on a sunny Saturday in June at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Randolph, MA. An enthusiastic group of young people in bright red t-shirts with the slogan, "A day to go wild for the life of a child", emblazoned on the back were having a blast. They were there to dance for 12 hours straight in an effort to raise money to support the work of St. Boniface Haiti Foundation. The 12-hour event was punctuated with fun activities like "Freeze", "Rowboat", "Limbo", "Macarena", and countless others, the participants scrambling to comply. The DJ for the day was followed by a live band in evening. It was great fun for participants and spectators alike.
The event was organized by college students Andrew and Jen Curtis, both of whom have been to Haiti on Immersion Trips. The hall was adorned with Haitian posters, pictures, and slide presentations, to give everyone a sense of life in Haiti and the Haitian people. Between the free pizza, the games, and the dancing, raising money could not have been more fun. $2,100 profit was realized for the poor of Haiti.
A "Battle of the Bands" is planned for August 2. The band that played at the Dance-a-thon volunteered to recruit bands for this event, which will also be held at St. Mary's Parish in Randolph. Thanks to Father Ron Coyne for so generously supporting these events by donating the use of the hall.
We would like to issue a challenge to any one at any age to consider this fun and painless way to do something for the poorest of the poor. There is no limit to the number of sponsors a participant can get to "pay for" this good time. Call or email Sue Curtis (781-963-0471) or for an information packet on how to organize a dance event.
