Levason, reunited with his father in Fond des Blancs.
As man of you know, the USNS Comfort has been sending many post-op patients our way by helicopter. Recently, we received Levason Dorcy, a 10 year old child who had broken his femur during the earthquake in Port-Au-Prince. Levason was running out of his own house (which eventually collapsed) when he was hit by the collapsing home of his neighbors. His parents brought him to a Doctors Without Borders clinic before he was transferred to the USNS Comfort for surgery.
Somewhere in these transfers, Levason lost track of his parents and the Comfort staff was left without any way to contact them. With the few details about the location of his house and armed with the names of his mother and father, Jean Rony Bellange, our community development coordinator set out to see if he could find his folks in the capital. After walking the hills surrounding Port-Au-Prince for a few hours, Jean Rony eventually was able to find Levason's father and we were able to transport him back to St. Boniface for the reunion. Levason and his father will stay with us at the hospital until he has completed his post-op treatment.
Although the odds are stacked against us, our team on the ground continues to add small (and many times large) victories to the relief efforts. Thank you for your donations and continued support of the work being done by our staff here in Haiti.
