THE HARVEST HAS BEGUN!
Test harvest reveals large number of tilapia ready to eat.

Our fish pond project continues to proceed as planned, as Food for the Poor's fish pond experts made a trip to Fond des Blancs to scout out our ponds and ensure that they are ready to harvest. Many people in the village of Ferdil gathered to help with the "test harvests" and were surprised by the number and size of the fish. This was the community's first chance to see their fish outside of the ponds and a cheer went up as the nets were hoisted.

The first harvest is planned for August and fish will be sold to local villagers as well as donated to St. Boniface's program for malnourished children. After the hurricanes and food crisis of the past year, it was an amazing sight to see so much protein ready for harvest. We will fill you in on progress with the ponds as soon as we have more information.
