It is with great gratitude that we say goodbye to the Healing Hands for Haiti Canadian team. We are disappointed to see them depart, but inspired by the significant and lasting contributions they have left behind. Aside from their obvious headway in training our staff on rehabilitation techniques, they have motivated our patients to achieve what two months ago seemed impossible.
This week, people have transferred from their beds to their chairs, learned liberating self-care techniques creating a renewed sense of independence, and some have even taken their first few steps. The physical advancements have been remarkable, but the emotional achievements have been even more profound. There is a renewed sense of purpose, competitiveness, and true camaraderie in the air. Sports balls are flying, high-fives are happening, and laughter can be heard throughout the hospital. This is one resilient group of people, on a mission to live full and productive lives. There is still a long road ahead, but hope is alive in Fond des Blancs.

Throughout a two week evaluation, we were able to access the program's efficacy in the field. We also got a unique perspective on St. Boniface's other programs and services in the 16 communities we visited.
We are distributing food in 42 different communities in Fond des Blancs and Villa, and have reached 7000 young children and 4000 pregnant and lactating women - 11,000 people.
