Incredible and long-sought achievement finally made.
An incredible achievement was made this week. After many years of planning and a few attempts, St. Boniface Hospital now has a functioning x-ray machine.
A visiting medical team this week included two technicians who installed our existing x-ray machine and brought a Viztek CR station, a machine that reads the cassette and sends a digital image to a connected computer. This technology allows the cassette to be used hundreds of times, and eliminates the need for costly chemicals and chemical disposal.
The images are very high quality, and can be viewed on the computer screen or sent via the internet to anywhere in the world to be read. We will be training x-ray technicians soon and the radiology department will be in full operation.
This achievement for the hospital means that we will no longer need to send our patients to other cities for x-rays. The trip over our bumpy roads to another location could be very painful and cause hardship for patients and their families. Now we can provide even better care for the people of Fond des Blancs right where we are.
Thank you to Doug of Medgeeks and Joe of TriMedx for their wonderful work, and to our donors for making the purchase of the new equipment possible.

Throughout a two week evaluation, we were able to access the program's efficacy in the field. We also got a unique perspective on St. Boniface's other programs and services in the 16 communities we visited.
We are distributing food in 42 different communities in Fond des Blancs and Villa, and have reached 7000 young children and 4000 pregnant and lactating women - 11,000 people.
This week, people have transferred from their beds to their chairs, learned liberating self-care techniques creating a renewed sense of independence, and some have even taken their first few steps.
