Dental care is an important component of the healthcare services the St. Boniface Hospital provides. Primary dental care is provided through the hospital’s full-time dentist. Preventative care is also offered through fluoride treatment and educational programs in local schools as part of the community health initiatives.

St. Boniface has one of the only dental facilities in Southern Haiti. The Haitian state reports that there is only one dentist for almost 150,000 people in the region. Most people do not go to the dentist unless they are in severe pain and often it is too late to save the tooth and it must be extracted.

The expansion of our dental clinic is needed to better cover the dental needs in the area. We are currently providing a scholarship to dental school for a young man from the community who lives at Xavier House in Port au Prince and will return to work at the St. Boniface Hospital on the completion of his studies.
