HIV/AIDS

The St. Boniface Haiti Foundation offers comprehensive HIV/AIDS care to all HIV positive patients seen at St. Boniface Hospital. SBHF receives funding from the US Government programs AIDSRelief and PEPFAR to provide antiretroviral therapy and psychosocial support to those living with HIV. The program also focuses on a comprehensive approach to the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV. Community-based education surrounding HIV/AIDS encourages testing and maximizes prevention efforts throughout St. Boniface Hospital’s catchment area.

Education aimed at prevention reaches people in a variety of ways. Youth Theater groups travel throughout the catchment area to put on skits to educate their peers. Soccer tournaments are sponsored to provide the opportunity for education sessions during half-time and between games. A radio station will begin broadcasting education and prevention programs over the entire area. Other programs will be conducted for World AIDS Day and International Women’s Day.

HIV/AIDS testing and education sessions are also conducted in outlying areas to ensure that all citizens are aware of the facts surrounding the epidemic and the need for testing. Those testing positive receive the treatment and support that they need. A network of Community Health Workers visit families to provide ongoing support. Orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS receive support through social services provided by St. Boniface Hospital and its partners.
