Housing

Giving a family a house to live in is one of the most significant things you can do to change their lives. The St. Boniface Haiti Foundation’s housing initiative is a vital component of its efforts to reach the poorest of the poor in its catchment area. In a region where people must often construct houses using the meager materials of thin wooden boards, packed clay from the ground, and straw roofing, solid housing can mean the difference between life and death. Many of the houses can serve as conduits of disease and many of these dwellings cannot fare the region’s seasonal hurricanes.

To date, the St. Boniface Haiti Foundation has built over 50 houses for the poorest families. These two-room houses have a room for sleeping and an area for the family to gather together. They also have a latrine behind the house for the dignity and health of their new inhabitants. When possible, we repair existing houses by augmenting the size or reinforcing the structure. This enables us to help a larger number of people.
