Medical Education

The St. Boniface Hospital is always in need of qualified medical personnel. We are continuing to grow and expand our healthcare services both at the hospital and throughout the catchment area with our many community health initiatives and opening of satellite clinics. We have made a commitment to train the best and brightest of the students in Fond des Blancs in medical professions so that they can return to the community and work for the hospital.

Medical School:
We support three students in medical school in Port au Prince. These students live at Xavier House while school is in session and return to Fond des Blancs to work at the hospital over school breaks. Medical School takes five to six years after which time the students return to work in the hospital for a minimum of two years to “give back” to the community.

Nursing Program:
The best and brightest girls are given scholarships to nursing school. They attend nursing school in Les Cayes which is a city not too far from Fond des Blancs. We provide tuition and living expenses. This is a vitally important program to the St. Boniface Hospital as there is a critical need for qualified and skilled nurses. Having nurses from the Fond des Blancs community will be extremely beneficial to the hospital.

Technician Training:   We have students receiving training to provide support services in our hospital such as lab technicians. As the hospital has grown the need for laboratory services has grown significantly. We identify students who have an interest and the skills and send them to school to receive training. After school they return to work at the hospital.
