The St. Boniface Hospital does not have the capability to treat all patients who come for medical care. Patients with conditions that cannot be treated in Fond des Blancs may be referred to other hospitals in Port au Prince or to the US for further treatment. If a patient is referred to the US for treatment we find sponsors to help. In the US, patients are treated and hosted until they are ready to return home to Haiti.
The Ray Tye Medical Aid Foundation, hospitals in Boston, Jacksonville, and Maine, and US-based medical volunteers have been instrumental in providing care to patients referred by medical staff at the St. Boniface Hospital. Without care in the US, these patients would not survive or would have to live in constant pain and suffering. The St. Boniface Foundation works with the US State Department and volunteers in the US to ensure these patients receive the care they need and deserve.
