Surgical Teams
The focus of these 6-day trips is to perform as many surgeries as possible over the four days between the 2 travel days. Consultation and referral are an intrinsic part of the process. Teams bring medical knowledge and skill to increase the capacity of our hospital in Fond des Blancs and provide additional training to the doctors on staff in Haiti. Specialized equipment is brought in to insure that the team has everything it needs to do the surgeries.
Medical Teams
Physicians specializing in Internal Medicine hold clinics in outlying areas. There may be a contingency of medical students accompanying them for a learning opportunity. These teams also visit Mother Teresa’s Home for Children and Home for the Dying to offer their services.
Dental Teams
U.S. Dentists bring their expertise and dental equipment to improve the dental care at our dental clinic. Groups go out to the schools to provide fluoride treatments to students. There is no natural fluoride in Haiti.
VOSH Eye Team
Visual Optometric Services to Humanity groups visit with equipment and array of eye glasses for vision screening and provision of eye glasses. This program is new in 2008 and we are very excited to be able to offer it. Plans are being developed for a surgical team specializing in cataract surgery on patients referred by the screening team.
