Herminie Is Going Home

Herminie with her mother, Joanne Thadal.

Herminie Bernadel, age 18 months, was born with an imperforate anus.  Doctors were able to perform a colostomy on this tiny baby to save her life.  Unfortunately, the expertise needed to create a normal bowel opening was not available in Haiti.  Her mother, Joanne Thadal, brought her to our hospital in Fond des Blancs. She was seen by a visiting Surgical Team who fell in love with her. They made plans to bring her back to Jacksonville, Florida, for specialized surgery. Under the direction of Dr. Mary Ann Dokler for repair of an imperforate anus, Herminie has received excellent care at Wolfson Children's Hospital and Nemours Children's Clinic. We are very grateful to the Eclesiastre family for hosting the pair since October.   Our sincere appreciation goes out to Dr. Dokler, the hospital and clinic, and everyone who played a part in giving this beautiful child a happy ending to her story.  Joanne is elated that her child will lead a normal life now.
