From Nurse Cleremont to Doctor Cleremont!

Dr. Cleremont is an inspiration to the young people of Fond des Blancs. She is a living testimony to what is possible if they work hard and persevere to reach their goals.

Miliane Cleremont was a wonderful nurse who had worked at our hospital for four years. Doctors visiting from the U.S. frequently commented on her skills and knowledge base. She was invaluable to them as she interfaced between culture, language, and modern medicine in the assessment and care of their patients. She was pleasant, energetic, and highly competent.

When approached with the idea of medical school, Miliane was overwhelmed. She would have to study a great deal to pass the entrance exams. In the end, she agreed and passed the entrance exam with flying colors. She was off to Port-au-Prince to begin medical school. The State Medical School in Port-au-Prince is tuition free. For the cost of room, board, books and medical equipment, a bright young nurse like Miliane could take the next step and go far.  She worked hard and it paid off. During school breaks, she returned to work with the doctors in Fond des Blancs. She learned a great deal and she contributed even more. Finally, the day came and she graduated from medical school.

When Dr. Cleremont returned to Fond des Blancs to live and work as a physician, the people welcomed her back as one of their own, someone they knew and trusted.  The entire community celebrated her success!
