SBHF and Build Health International are building a new 10,000 square foot warehouse in Fond-des-Blancs. This building will represent a huge expansion in our ability to store supplies, medications, and equipment, increasing our capacity to maintain inventory needed for the daily operations of the hospital and community health network, as well as providing space for emergency stores that may be needed for mobile clinics and other organizations working in the Southern Peninsula. Construction of the warehouse has been made possible by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's grant to support SBHF's health systems strengthening efforts in southern Haiti in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
A warehouse of this scale needs a solid foundation to support the thousands of tons of shelving and supplies that will eventually live inside. This week BHI's construction team is pouring the concrete slab floor for the warehouse. It is 5 inches of solid concrete reinforced with rebar for strength and stability.
We can't wait to see the walls and roof go up in the coming weeks!
