Training & Sustainability

To support our key mission of improving livelihoods in the Southern Peninsula by improving health, SBHF works in education, medical training, biomedical engineering, infrastructure improvement, and community development. These programs help support the work of the hospital and improve opportunities and outlooks for the entire community, building a sustainable future for the region.

SBHF believes that a holistic approach to ending poverty is only possible when people are able to lift themselves and their community up. To that end, we have a number of strategic initiatives that help improve opportunities for children and adults, strengthen the health system, build infrastructure systems that support the hospital's work, and provide medical residencies and training to Haitian medical professionals.

Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical technology is imperative in the needs of a fully functioning hospital. Nearly 80% of medical equipment in low-income countries are donated, and the majority of the time the instruments don’t work and hospitals do not have the technicians to fix them.

WASH: Water, Sanitation & Hygiene

Water is not only a key to life, but to health. Improving access to clean water is a critical way to improve health and safety for all people.

Housing & Community Development

Safe, sanitary housing is one part of the puzzle in improving health and well being for the poorest individuals and families. In partnership with Food for the Poor, we are working to ensure some of the most vulnerable people in our community have homes.
