Video: Innovative Equipment for the NICU

How might we design high quality life-improving products at low cost? Dr. Pierre of SBH in rural Haiti recognizes that design has radically improved health outcomes in the industrialized world. It has the capability to adapt technologies to the needs of a specific user and context. Yet, these designs fail outside of the industrialized world. Although at SBH, staff delivers the best possible care, this context couldn’t be any more different from an American hospital. They have received many many medical device donations that they cannot use. Design that Matters partnered with SBH (as in other countries where it works) to bring a specific design solution (Firefly) to improve health outcomes for babies, starting by evaluating the context.
