Community Development Initiative for Young Women Begins

HEI/SBH has begun implementing a program for young women, aimed at teaching them livestock skills that can prove to be income generators down the line.

We are currently training 25 women from the teen mothers’ association on the best practices of handling and raising chickens. The organization is also currently building a pen in which approximately 800 chickens will be raised and sold every two months. Selling at the local market and to the hospital can help create a product cycle and provide these women with an income.

Directors of the initiative also have high hopes for the project down the line. “We hope with the training an the investment they will become independent producers,” says Michelet Mascary, Education and Community Development Coordinator for HEI/SBH.
