Gardening Courses for Patients with Spinal Cord Injuries

In the presented photo, members of the Spinal Cord Rehabilitation and Community Reintegration Program attend a gardening course with a local agronomist on the St. Boniface campus. The courses, which are offered every Wednesday and Saturday for three hours, are designed to teach proper gardening techniques. Thus far, patients attending the classes have learned to grow basil, tomatoes, eggplant and hot peppers, and are excited to continue to learn.

“They are eager to learn techniques, and we are brainstorming ways to continue these activities with people with SCI who are living at home,” says Program Coordinator Betsy Sherwood.
