Dental Clinic

While access to general medical care can be difficult in southern Haiti, the lack of dentists and dental care is extreme.

HEI/SBH has been providing comprehensive dental care, an important component of primary care, for over 25 years. Our dental surgeons specialize in preventing and treating oral diseases which, if left un-cared for, can impact the whole health of the patient. In 2023, our team provided care at over 5,800 patient visits.

Before our program began, the vast majority of people in the region had never been to a dentist before and did not know how to properly care for their oral health. Our dentist, Dr. Dorce Wilner, travels to schools, churches, and other community spaces to raise awareness about the dental services available at SBH. Thanks to this early advocacy work, thousands of patients visit us for dental services each year for everything from cavities and dental crowns to oral lesions.

Our dental clinic continues to visit schools to educate children about dental care, check their oral health, provide fluoride treatments, and distribute toothpaste and toothbrushes.
