Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health
Haiti has the highest rates of maternal mortality and child death before age 5 in the western hemisphere. SBHF's Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health programs are working to change that statistic.
SBHF’s Maternal, Neonatal and Child health (MNCH) program addresses a critical need for improved healthcare for mothers and their children in Haiti. In a place so close to the world-class healthcare available in the United States, it is unacceptable and unimaginable that so many women and children die unnecessarily.
The Maternal & Neonatal Health Center at St. Boniface Hospital provides the only high-risk pregnancy care on the southern peninsula that is accessible to all who need it. It also houses the only functional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on the Southern Peninsula, which has cared for neonates from as far away as Port-au-Prince and Jeremie when their families have nowhere else to turn.
